POLITICAL observations & opinions

* Democrats would apparently rather play political games (after they lose in 2012) than force Senate Republicans to make fools of themselves by actually filibustering instead of winning by threatening to do so … I think that’s disgraceful … If Democrats would rather allow Republicans to play the filibuster game now so they can play it later, if that’s their strategy, then maybe they ought to lose in 2012

neither one shows any guts on this issue !!!

******

One day after Senate Republicans blocked the nomination of Caitlin Halligan to the federal appeals court, they threatened a filibuster again to block the nomination of Richard Cordray to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Democrats reacted … with angry words and NO ACTION …

Politico reports …

  • The White House and Senate Democrats are issuing a blunt warning to Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and his fellow Republicans: You live by the filibuster, you’ll die by the filibuster.
  • Furious at Republicans for blocking votes on an appeals court nominee and the head of a new consumer watchdog agency, Democratic saber-rattling is intensifying, with fresh warnings that McConnell — or any new Republican administration — will face major repercussions if they come into power in 2013.

LMW COMMENT …

The Democratic reaction from the White House and Senate is gutless, stupid and counter-productive. It suggests they don’t want to attack the filibuster problem because they want to use it themselves if they lose in 2012.

What they should do (and should have been doing since early 2009) is force the Republicans to actually filibuster instead of just threatening to do so.

The Republicans would look like fools taking up the time of the Senate for obstructionist nonsense, and it would be very clear to the American people which party is preventing government from working.

If Democrats would rather allow Republicans

to play the filibuster game now

so they can play it later, if that’s their strategy,

then maybe they ought to lose in 2012.
