from YAHOO news …

President Obama wraps up his three-day Jobs Bus Tour in Illinois Wednesday, but he’s spending a lot of time talking about Social Security.

The latest Republican presidential contender, Texas Governor Rick Perry, says it may be unconstitutional and that states should perhaps handle the program.

In his book Fed Up, Gov. Perry says it’s “by far the best example” of a program “violently tossing aside any respect for our founding principles.”

Perry calls Social Security a “failure” that we’ve been forced to accept for more than 70 years.

Perry contends most problems get better solutions when they’re solved at the local level and t’s time to have a conversation about letting states keep their money and implement their own versions of the program.

President Obama says he opposes “radical changes” that would dismantle “the most important social insurance program we have.”

He favors the kind of “modest adjustments” President Reagan made back in 1983 and that doing that again would guarantee that Social Security will be there for future generations.
