Gov. Christie (R-NJ) enters his government helicopter

the Newark Star Ledger reports …

  • Gov. Chris Christie flew from downtown Trenton to Montvale in Bergen County for his son’s baseball game.
  • He then flew with his wife to Princeton, where he met at the governor’s mansion with a group of Republican donors from Iowa who were trying to convince him to run for president in 2012.
  • Democratic state legislators blasted the governor …
    • Sen. Loretta Weinberg (D-Bergen) … blasted the trip as evidence of “a certain arrogance that he has displayed that needs much more self control.”
    • Assemblywoman Joan Quigley (D-Bergen) … Christie’s trip was “an outright abuse of taxpayer dollars.”
    • Assemblywoman Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-Mercer) … “The governor must publicly detail his use of state police helicopter, and rectify this lapse in judgment by immediately reimbursing the taxpayers for all costs associated with personal and political trips

the governor’s office said Wednesday that Christie

will not pay the state back for the $2,500 trip.

I applaud the governor for going to see his son play baseball. I don’t even mind if he took the state helicopter if his schedule offered no other alternative. But to refuse to reimburse the taxpayers of NJ for an obviously personal expenditure? Where is his judgment? Buried somewhere deep below his arrogance.
