* my take on the VP debate

Posted by Lew Weinstein on October 3, 2008

LMW COMMENT:

The initial poll results: 2 to 1 in favor of Joe Biden

Sarah Palin memorized the talking points they fed her and repeated them well, regardless of the question.

Palin demonstrate no substantive knowledge about anyimportant national or international issue.

I also found it insulting that Palin didn’t answer most of the questions. She used the debate like a stump speech and we learned nothing about what she knows or thinks.

Palin also put forward the frightening prospect that she would seek to expand the powers of the Vice Presidency beyond the enormous expansion already put in place by Dick Cheney, who Biden called the most dangerous VP in American history.

Joe Biden continually established the differences between Barack Obama and John McCain, which contrasted sharply with Palin’s inability to show any differences whatever between the policies of George W. Bush and John McCain.

I couldn’t agree with you more. I’m not sure how she went totally unchallenged regarding her declaration that she would talk about whatever she wanted to talk about. The bar was set so low, that the news is that she did not stumble. Thankfully, the public seems to be on to her. The CNN Poll of undecideds showed that Biden won the actual debate and handled the questions masterfully, making the case for why Obama’s presidency would be better than McCain’s. We also shouldn’t forget that Palin has television and pageant training — both of which allowed her to use her folksiness.
