* McCain: another misstatement in an emerging pattern of blunders

Posted by Lew Weinstein on September 20, 2008

On Real Clear Politics, NBC’s Mark Murray and NBC/NJ’s Adam Aigner-Treworgy write about yet another John McCain misstatement …

  • On the campaign trail in Minnesota today, McCain incorrectly suggested that the executive pay that former Fannie Mae CEOs Frank Raines and Jim Johnson earned came from taxpayers.
  • “That same executive got $21 million of your money,” McCain said of Johnson. “And the other CEO, another supporter of Senator Obama, Mr. Raines got $25 million of your money. Let’s tell them to give it back. Let’s tell them to give it back.”
  • Actually … It was not taxpayer money. It was shareholder money.

LMW COMMENT:

It wasn’t a big mistake, and taken by itself, it could easily be excused.

But … it is beginning to seem that John McCain is getting almost everything wrong.

And this supports the contention that …

  • John McCain shoots from the hip,
  • doesn’t really know what he’s talking about,
  • and can’t remember details.

Not exactly what we want in a President.

Oops, we already have one like that, and look how that turned out.
