* Herbert: McCain’s plan will cost 20 million Americans the health insurance they now have

Posted by Lew Weinstein on September 16, 2008

Bob Herbert writes in today’s NYT …

  • A study coming out Tuesday from scholars at Columbia, Harvard, Purdue and Michigan projects that 20 million Americans who have employment-based health insurance would lose it under the McCain plan.
  • the McCain health plan would treat employer-paid health benefits as income that employees would have to pay taxes on.
  • The net effect of the plan, the study said, “almost certainly will be to increase family costs for medical care.”
  • The upshot is that many more Americans — millions more — will find themselves on their own in the bewildering and often treacherous health insurance marketplace.

LMW COMMENT:

One can only hope that those hardworking middle class Americans who are currently enamored with John McCain and Sarah Palin will find a way to understand just how bad the policies of that ticket will be for them and their families.

If they can get past the social issues the Republicans want them to focus on, and instead focus on the McCAin-Palin economic policies that will dramatically worsen their lives, they will vote for Obama-Biden.

If they ask whether 8 years of George W. Bush has made their lives better, and if they want 4 more years of the same policies, they will vote for Obama-Biden.
